Those lines of trees are along the edge of 5 or 6 drainage ditches. The land on the left out of the photo is hilly and this area is flat in the photo. The water runs out of the hills after heavy rains and out of side hill springs. Drainage tile also dump into the ditches.
There are 7 houses nestled in the clumps of trees. So those trees are for shade. Some of the trees are also planted wind breaks.
That area you see is some of the most heavy tree area we have around here. East of me there is only 2 woody drainage ditches in 6 miles.
Some of the trees on the far right are part on the government owned land that is part of the Coralville Reservoir Wildlife area.
