We can and dehydrate all kinds of stuff. The wife has been on a quest for something to do with all the squash we are getting. We do chips, soup stock, and strips for lasagna. She found a recipe on line that sounded different so we gave it a shot.
Zucchini candy. I won't put all the details here but basically what you do is peel and remove the seeds from the squash so you only have the meat. In a pot mix up Kool-aide mixture, complete with sugar, and bring to a boil. Add squash and boil for 20 minutes or so. Remove from liquid and place in the dehydrator. Once complete remove and bag. Drop about a teaspoon of powered sugar and shake like crazy.
What you end up with is a treat about the consistency of liquorish but not quite as tough and not quite as soft as Gummy-Bears (which I can not stand). Taste just like the flavor of the Kool-aide. That chit is lip smacking good and you will never know it is squash. No where as sweet as the watermelon candy treats she makes (which gets tough to eat much of).
One of the kids stopped by and she gave them some. When she told them what it was they didnt believe her, but they did take a bag home for the grand kids.
