Just use one of several phosphoric acid products that are on the market specifically for cleaning cooling systems. Prestone, Napa, NH and various others all have something with a name similar to 'Fast Flush'. I find it works good for removing most crap from the system. You leave it in for half an hour or so as directed by the product label and then flush, flush, flush until the suds are gone. Whatever you use I would not leave it in there for weeks...
