If it has two hoses going to the cylinder, the top of the cylinder is used as a reservoir. If it has only one hose, the system needs a reservoir to supply enough oil to lift and a place for it to go when down. Many reservoirs are available from places like northern tool. the top of the reservoir shouild be at or above the fill plug, which now becomes connected to the reservoir bottom with a hose. To see if this is a cure, connect a hose (with a fitting) to the fill hole, and stick it into a container of the lift oil. If it now cycles correctly, a reservoir, with vent is your answer. Jim
