This may be of interest, might not be applicable, but while on the subject, there is a type of paint referred to as Intumescent Paint, more or less for applying to substrates that need a fire resistance hourly rating, not sure if it crosses over into other applications, cost is also a factor when "value engineering" material selection or a design using a particular material. I remember looking into it for as an equal to spray applied fire proofing on structural steel for some odd condition in a building, don't recall the circumstances, but I never heard of the material prior to, surprising as to how many modern, high performance materials are out there today.
