Unless you are trying to do multiple rows a 40+ hp tractor is way more than you need for cultivation. Speeking from experience when it comes to eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, etc, I cultivate until the plants get too tall then I mulch. If you don't want to spray herbicide, and I don't and never have, then you have to mulch or just let the weeds go and do the best you can. We make succession plantings because I know that no matter what I do eventually the grass wins. Mulching also helps with moisture retention and addition of organic material to the soil.. I don't think you will find a reasonable tractor that will clear a mature eggplant or tomato. My best advice is to get a Super A, C, or 130/140 and look into plastic mulch or straw mulch. I use a farmall 130 and it can clear the plants fine. We have a larger tractor for field prep, front end loader, etc. This combo works well. In my opinion no vegetable farm should be without at least one offset cultivation tractor and 20 hp is plenty.
