Hey John - One of my kids had the same problem with his old Yamaha cart. He solved it same as Jim suggests (O/B motor squeeze bulb). It's now habit to squeeze the bulb a couple times before cranking it up. But it now starts easily even after sitting several weeks.
Note the stock pulse-type fuel pump pumps only a modest amount even when working perfectly. They thus experience great difficulty repriming when they go dry. ALSO the slightest leak (so slight as to not leak gas out but to let air in) anywhere in the fuel system will cause it to lose prime. Then add the crappy "ethanol enhanced" gas we're now forced to use which raises h*ll with the elastomers in older fuel systems - it's amazing they run at all(!)
