Again not likely to have been bees but one of the many breeds of warps which are to blame for 99.9% of all stings that people get. I hate and I will say it again I hate to see bees get bad mouthed by those that have not learned better. Former bee keeper here by the way. I have never gotten stung by a bee unless I did something to get them up set and bees do not nest in the ground by the way but yellow jackets do
