I always found that the teeth on the outside of my backhoe bucket was the best method I ever found to locate water lines, phone lines as well as underground electric wires. I have had them come out and paint the ground where not to dig and ten feet away from their paint get into a phone trunk line with those backhoe bucket finder teeth. At least it don't cost the digger if they paint first.
