: Is it possible (mounting considerations aside) to use a basic 12 volt AC Delco Altenator on the electrical system of a 12 volt JD
: 60? I notice that there is only one wire coming from the NEGATIVE pole of the battery, thgrough the ammeter and to the
: voltage regulator mounted on the current generator. A wire also goes from the same post on the regulator back to the ignition
: switch (seems weird to me but it works). I assume that these wires can be attached to the "Battery" post on the altenator but
: what do the other two terminals (titled simply "1" & "2") attche to? Also, I have heard that there may be some modification
: needed to the coil? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I have already started ripping things apart. Maybe there is
: some publication explaining all of this but I know it can be done. THANKS!

ANDY ONE THING THAT WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE SIMPLER ON THAT TRACTOR IS A THING CALLED A ONE WIRE ALTERNATOR. THIS IS WHAT US HOT RODDERS USE. IT ELIMINATES ALL THOSE WIRES RUNNING TO THE VOLTAGE REGULATER WITH ONLY ONE WIRE RUNNIG FROM ALTERNATOR TO V-REGULATOR. THE PURPOSE OF ALL THE WIRES RUNNING TO THE REGULATOR IS FOR RUNNING ACCESSORIES. SINCE A TRACTOR NOR A HOT ROD HAVE THESE WHY COMPLICATE MATTERS.SEE A LOCAL AUTO ELECTRCIAN ABOUT THIS. HE OR SHE CAN PROBALLY MAKE THIS PRETTY SIMPLE. WE'RE NOT TALKING ROCKET SCIENCE HERE. I JUST THINK YOUR PROBLEMS OR COSTS ARE GOING TO COME WHEN COMES TO CHANGING TO 12V STARTER,LIGHTS,ETC. CRAIG

The saga starts with the following message: Hey guys I have a decision to make. I know what you all will probably suggest and it will probably agree with me way down inside, but here it is. I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction, ... [Read Article]
