Works but theres a better way,use a metal bucket and solder in the bottom a piece of 1/4-3/8 copper pipe a foot or two long. Dig a hole with a small piece of pipe drove in the ground and then removed. Set your pipe down in this hole and fill bucket. As water runs into ground it fills up to the level of the end of pipe and shuts off. Waters tree only when its needed,and puts water deeper in the ground. This encourages roots to grow deeper also,instead of right along top of ground, making your trees less prone to drought.
