The electrifcation of the rural US and Canada was in full swing in the mid 1930s. Farm water was pumped by windmill or hand power as a matter of course. The advent of pump jacks allowed the continued use of pump rods and submerged pumping systems (cylinders and pistons with leathers, at the bottom of the well) the Jack was powered by electric motors providing water far more reliably than wind. Aermotor was another common brand that also (and still) makes windmills. Jim
