I've got a Miller Big 20 welder with Continental and a Walbro carb on it. The problem I'm having is that the ethanol in the gas is attacking the float and making it swell to the point where it gets stuck in the bowl and can't meter the gas anymore. I've called about 10 different carburetor shops all over the country and they all say no one makes replacement brass float for it, but they can sell me a new carb for $300 to $400. I took a rasp and shaved the float down and it worked for a little while, until the float swelled up and got stuck again (about a week). I don't know what the float is made out of, but it looks and feels similar to that hard green foam you put fake flowers in. So, my question is, is there anything you can think of that I could coat the float in, or spray on the float, that would stand up to gas and still float? I had thought about Glyptol, but I don't know if it will stand up to gas.
