Pat" The potato grower (who is a good friend)who did farm over a K" acres used seed from the last years crops. Burbank Russets was the choice potato's for OR-IDA and the seed is cut and allowed to film over before planting. One piece in a hill planted 12"-18" in apart. To much moisture rots the host seed and slows the growth of the potato, conversely, to dry of seed does the same to the host potato.Older seed host has the propensity to rot away quickly when not skinned over. This is our first year to do the Burbank Russets that we planted in the 1st week in APRIL.We are expecting a bumper crop the way the plants are doing. Hope this helps and showing you our plant Pictures .Regards LOU.P.S. 1st picture shows where we planted the 11 sweet potatoes, the other on the sides is the Burbank russets,Second picture is when the burbanks were just starting to push thru about 2 weeks after planting seed, They are about to my knees now in height.
