There is high pressure and shearing which occur typically between a cam lobe and flat tappet cam follower with a low rpm/light valve spring pressure engine. Now try a high rpm/high valve spring pressure flat tappet cammed engine without extra wear/pressure additives. Anybody ever wonder why Detroit diesel two strokes and Deere on the two cylinder injection pumps used roller cam followers?
