It was my turn to feed the steers. My sons and I take turns on the weekends. I do it in the mornings during the week most of the time. The sons do the night feeding. We finally found some reasonable feeder calves down in Missouri. So the yards are full again. That is 750 steers. So not sick or problems calves today. First time since we got them Monday.

Next project was mounting a JD 740 Classic loader on a friend's JD 4430. We had to mount the joystick valve and all. I plumbed it hydraulically hot off of the three point supply line and drilled the hydraulic filter cup for the return side. Also mounted a step kit too. While mounting the joystick valve I noticed a broken bolt in the transmission housing. It holds the high pressure supply line from vibrating. He had been having line issues but he always replaced them himself. He did not notice the missing hold down clip. Drilled the bolt right out with a left hand drill bit. I did not even have to use an easy out on it. THAT IS not my usual luck. Everything worked the first time with no leaks.

Got that all done about 4 pm. I ate supper and still felt like doing something. So the wife's car, a Saturn Vue, needed the front brakes replaced. I had the parts on hand so I replaced the pads and rotors both. Not a single hard bolt or stuck caliper. Took less than an hour for both sides.

That went so well I decided to replace the front seat belts. The old ones had started to fray and GM gave me the parts under warranty/recall but I had to put them in. Dealer wanted $250 to do it for labor alone. I have had the belt assemblies for 3-4 months but had been putting it off as you have to take the interior panels off of the door posts between the doors. Any time I usually take plastic panels off it seems like half the clips/fasteners break. Then you have a panel that rattles. Everyone of these came right off. Not one broken clip/fastener. Did not even loose any of the little spring loaded retaining clips. It only took me 1 1/2 hours to do both sides.

So I then did the evening feeding and watched the sunset on the back porch. Grand Daughters came up to the house after their horse chores and we all eat a big piece of homemade rhubarb pie with ice cream. Life does not get much better than that.

I thought about going to town and buying a lotto ticket with the way my luck went today. To get a broken bolt out that easy and not have any problems with the interior panels. I very rarely have that much good luck. Now I will be watching over my shoulder for my luck to even out. LMAO

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
