: : : : It sounds like a carburation problem to me, unless its a result of the tractor getting bogged down. you may want to try opening up the needle valve on the carb, and make sure fuel line and sediment bowl are clean.

: : : : : I am attempting to take care of my neighbor's Golden Jubilee ever since her husband died. While using the brush hog, the tractor dies and backfires, but will start back again, sometimes after two tries. It runs for about 5 or 10 minutes and does the same thing again. Any suggestions? I would guess it's the carburetor. If that's the case, can I make an adjustment or am I better off buying a new one. I am mechanically minded, but would like to know if somewone has been here before. Also would be interested in sources of information about taking care (general stuff) of the tractor. Would appreciate any help.

: : : sounds like it's not getting enough fuel into the float bowl

:
: : Next time it starts to bog down , pull out the choke a little and see if the engine picks up and runs better. If it does you may have some trash in your gas sediment bowl. I have a bit of rust in one of my Jubilees and can stop and and wait for the motor to cool off and clean out the sediment bowl. Be sure not to start the tracort if you spill any gas until it has evapurated from things like the spark plug wires!!!
: : I put about 5 hours on my Jubilee and found this always works for me.

: : Always use clean fuel and store in a clean container. I also try to keep my fuel topped off when not in use to reduce condensation of water inside the tank.

: : I would start with the fuel delivery system before I tuched the carb.

: : Good luck

: : Cliff

: : It may not be a fuel problem.

: : Some times when the ignition coil has a loose or broken winding, it will cause a dead short when it heats up within the coil itself. This, in effect, acts in the same manner as the ignition switch.

: : Dave
Check your points, sounds like they are set too close,
they will stick and will not fire, but will break and
it to sound off big time.
Good luck,Bob

Today's Featured Article - Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a ...
