I have IMT here in Iowa and have replacement insurance and another $100,000 to $200,000 liability insurance for the tractors. The hardest part I found was most insurance companies want to classify them as pulling tractors and that comes with a high dollar policy. I can participate in any tractor event except pulls with my tractors and be covered. I think it"s like $50 a year.
Our club requires insurance because several years ago a guy was participating in a slow tractor race, dismounted the JD at the end of the race near some parked cars, left the thing in gear, but disengaged the clutch. Some how the clutch engaged and drove the tractor into the side of a car. I"m guessing the clutch was pretty tight and just the action of the lever falling forward gave it enough traction to engage the clutch.
