: Hello. I've never owned a tractor and am buying
: one to do some winter plowing, driveway grading,
: brush hogging, and some garden plowing. I've got
: it narrowed down to the above models. I was wondering
: if anyone has experience with either of these. ie:
: reliability, parts expense/availability, etc.
: Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

I have a TO-30 that is well worn and used. Had it for about 4 years. It's a rugged machine, Got a bucket on the front and a backhoe hanging on the 3pt hitch. It runs and runs. It sat for a long time before I got it and the valve springs rusted and a couple broke after 2 years of me using it. They were available through my local M-F dealer and also a JD dealer. The hydraulic pump for the bucket fritzed out and the necessary parts were available through the JD dealer. I decided it was time for a set of new rod bearings, $32 thru the JD dealer. I've seen their parts book and I can get about anything I need, right down to new PTO shafts. Got a PTO adapter too, (it's smaller than the newer ones).I wouldn't worry about getting parts.

I think it's alot more rugged than the Ford too.

Today's Featured Article - The Engine Rebuild Kit - by Curtis Von Fange. I always liked engine rebuild kits. They have all the replacement parts for overhauling an engine without going to the store to get gaskets, special measuring tools, or miscellaneous parts. They come neatly packaged, clean and tidy. But it's important not to let that packaging lull you into a false sense of security. The appearance of matching sleeves, pistons, rings, and bearings can cause frustration and agony if not properly measured and installed in a workshop environment. Following c ... [Read Article]
