I'm almost ready to paint the spreader now, after I go over it with a wire wheel tomorrow. (brought it to the car wash tonight) The paint I'm using is Sherman Williams direct to metal alkyd enamel, got a whole bunch of it(15 gallons burgundy, 5 off white) for free from work as it didn't all fit in the new fire cabinet after our OSHA inspection.
Sounds like the surface prep doesn't have to be extremely clean, so the wire wheel and wipe down w/ thinner should work. Need to get some Naptha as that's what's recomended for clean up. They say not to thin it, but we'll see how it comes out of the gun. At work they just roll or brush it on
I think the hard part of all of it is to keep Dad from using it until the paint is cured. The only thing in my favor there is all the rain we've gotten in the last couple days. No way to get out there for a while.
I did find time to fix the green chopper yesterday. I changed the belts and noticed the hub was loose so I pulled that off, drilled & tapped for a grease zerk, repacked the bearings and stuck it back on. Chopped a small load off the field we need to get plowed for my brother's pumpkin business.
