wayy back i worked for the township highway dept. we would do a blade mix road base with road mix gravel with the fines it it. used a road grader and a tiller behind a tractor. if i remember the oil was mc500 that came from a nearby refinery. then the mix was laid flat and rolled smooth.from there, we sprayed the surface with hot oil and used 3/8 inch chip spread on that, then rolled in. i think the second spray was mc 250. if it got real hot in the summer, the road would get very soft,and we just spread chips back over the top. remember doing one road real quick by hauling in about 10 inches deep of road mix gravel, then spraying it with calcium chloride and water to act as a binder, rolled it, then tar'd and chipped it. road lasted for years.
