If you go to Suffolk while you're close by you can head north a little and cross the river(take the ferry) to Jamestown. Driving up through that area are some nice old plantations.Use to be a lot of peanut farms and soybeans too. Jamestown is where it all began. I always like to visit the settlement where the dig is always in progress.
Here's a link for the ride across the river. The cost is free. Once at Jamestown you're close to Williamsburg if you like history. Lots of war history and again where this country began.
