Easiest way to tell a 53 from a 71 is to look at the valve cover. 53 has perimeter bolts holding the valve cover down and a 71 has center hold downs.
Blowers can grow together over time. Pulling the head is not that difficult. You will have to remove the rocker shaft to get to all the bolts. Make sure the slide works freely on each injector and if not replace.
