I had a pair of auto-darken glasses and HATED them. They responded to UV, not to brightness, so they would darken outside, even on a cloudy day, but did not darken in the car, no matter how bright it was outside. And besides, they made me look like a large insect. They eventually fell out of my pocket when I was rototilling the garden, with predictable results (found the pieces later, when I was weeding the carrots).
