In this part of the world, pickups (even rangers, nissans, etc...) and larger are called trucks. Larger ones are sometimes referred to by tonnage i.e. 2-ton truck, sometimes by body type, sometimes by usage. As of late, SUV owners sometimes call their vehicles trucks, but about the only ones that do are the ones that drive them. One grey area that is largely irrelevant now is the el-camino/ranchero thing. My grandfather had a 78 Ranchero until the early 90's and he mostly called it a car. My brother and I referred to it as the Ratmobile as children because some sort of rodent died in the dash and it could not be driven after that with the windows up, even in the winter-time. That vehicle was not the best one to roll off the line. I remember the lights going out one night on the way home from Wilmington and the gear shift (automatic transmission) would pop out of drive often. As a very small child when I was told that automatics changed gears by themselves, I thought the gearshift moved just like on a column shifted manual. It was traded on a used 91 Ranger which turned out to be a much better and more useful vehicle. BTW, I think I'm the only one for miles around that still drives a truck with a column shift every day.
