I lost count of the motor homes Ive owned built on Ford one ton chassis with a 460 and C6 Tranny. The trannys did okay but that engine in an RV was bad to break the rear exh mainfiold bolt then the manifolds burned and leaked or they were also bad to crack. had to replace them on most of my 460 Fords. Those water pumps eventually fail and are a bear to change grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I always replaced the radiators with 4 cores and added a tranny cooler I HATE A DERN FORD

I got burned out on them after so many now run 454 Chevy with the 4L80E Overdrive Trannys and by pass the catalytic converters and on 25 ft Class C I can get near 10 MPG in perfect conditions cruising 60 MPH no wind or hills. Of course, in the Colorado Rockys or in wind or hills it drops to 8 or less

I have RV Motorhome lived and traveled for years (but camped all our lives) and now retired and spend 3 months in winter and 6 weeks or so in Summer going out west AND I LOVE THE FREEDOM AND AFFORDABILITY OF THE RV LIFESTYLE AND WILL DO IT TILL IM TOO OLD TO DRIVE. Sure gas costs but no restaurants 3 times a day nor nightly hotels. 8 to 10 MPG is poor for a vehicle but not bad for a 2 bedroom house lol

We do a lot of dry camping in Utah or Colorado on BLM or Natl Forest Camps so I modified my RV for extended dry camping. I can store 110 gallons of fresh water, 70 gal gray storage, 35 gal black water storage, 375 AH of battery storage (3 Group 31), rooftop solar panel, Onan 4KW Generator, Thetford Electra magic 85 recirculating toilet (huge water saver) so we can stay out 7 - 9 days with no hookups and do fine...

Its NOT for everyone but its the ONLY retirement and travel mode and lifestyle Ive ever had and will ever have. I have my own full bed my own full bathroom and hot shower and my own food n kitchen everwhere I travel for 4 to 5 months per year. Summer before last we did 8 of the western national parks what a trip n this summer were doing 6 other parks plus visit the kids in Memphis and Austin and San Diego. ALSO YOU DONT WEAR OUT YOUR WELCOME NEAR AS FAST WHEN ALL YOU DO IS PARK THE RV AT KIDS OR FRIENDS HOUSES plus the Grandkids love papaws big camper, you cant keep them out of it lol

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
