The drive line is the least of the worries on an older RV. Be very careful of water damage and verify all appliances as others have noted. We had a 28 ft. on an "93 E350 chassis held up fine until we moved to the country and don"t have much time to travel anymore. If it is just the 2 of you the majority of the time I would consider a van conversion or a much smaller RV just on the basis of it is easier to get into and out of places/cities/etc. Mileage will be in the neighborhood of 6-9 depending on size and driving habits. Can consider looking a little newer (93 or later depending on manufacturer) because they will have adopted fuel injection by that point and mileage is a little better. I could nurse ours up to almost 10 on a flat long run.
