Can't speak to the Fords, but we had an '86 Coachman (26ft) on a 3500 Chevvy chassis, 350 engine, 350 automatic. Bought it when it was about 7 years old, used it for ten years, pulling an 18ft trailer hauling JD B model size tractors, etc. No problems. Eight miles per gallon mostly. We attended 2-Cyl Expo in Missoula, MT in 1999, driving from St.Louis, (no trailer) pulled all the high mountains, at 45 MPH in high elevations. Wife and I had two teen agers at the time, and that was plenty of people for a trip in that small a camper. There are a whole lot of those lesser expensive motor homes available, most are Ford and Chevy chassis, and Dodges. I personally am not interested in a Dodge, but some people swear by them. Like the other guy said watch out for roof leaking into the interior, and try to find one with ALL the appliances in working order. They are like an earthquake on wheels, and appliances take a beating. eBay is a good place to look just to see what's out there. We now have a 26ft fifth wheel camper, pulled with Chevy pickup. But with gas sky high, we won't go very far away this year. We also travel with our car 28 mpg and stay in cheap motels to save on expenses. Have one good meal a day at Cracker Barrel. It's going to cost a couple hundred dollars a day to travel, it's just how you spend it.

The generator was shot as well as all the wiring. I dropped off the tractor expecting a transformation from a 6 volt to a 12 volt system utilizing the original generator housing, and a total rewiring of the whole tractor. The front end center pin bushing was worn also so I ask that they replace it if they had time. Well, that’s wha
