I used to keep 10-15 hens before the birdflu scare dictated a bunch of stupid stuff... Tried everything as far as mixed feed but got my most/best eggs by half/half wheat and barley with a pinch (5-10%??) of 21% protien rabbit pellets and some type of greens whenever possible. They started messing up the grit (oyster shells) pan so I took it away and just it away and mixed the grit in with the feed at about the same rate as the rabbit pellets. I also put a multi vitamin in the water and had 16 hours of light. Was told by the locals (and most all have chickens) not to feed corn except a little when temps were real cold......
