According to some people Ruger has quit taking orders on the 1911 and have a back order of over 2 million pistols. We e-mailed the company and got the standard response of " it has been so overrought with orders they added a second set of machinery to try and get caught up". We were looking for a Ruger for over 6 months,and every Local gun Shop said the same thing, "haven't seen one in over 6 months to a year" or " I have only seen one,or fired one when the rep brought one out from the factory" We also heard that some time ago Ruger had a buyers sale on them, If a gun shop purchased a quantity of other guns to sell, Ruger would send them one SR1911, so the gun shops bought into it,ordered quite a few quantity of other guns to get the remaining 1911's. I say they are making the cheaper (poly) guns due to the conceal carry so they are getting a faster return on their money,without having to spend at least 6 hrs per pistol to refine it to fire with Stainless Steel. We were searching for a Stainless steel 1911 for over 5 months and everything local was either backordered,or out of stock,just lucked on Springfield Armory 1911 loaded 45 ACP. Also, watch out for some people,knowing it is a hard pistol to find, they really increase their price to astronomical portions to make up for "I've got one,but good luck finding one at the list price" types, if you want it you'll pay this amount or find something else.
