Part of my duties when I worked for the county was to conduct the county's surplus auctions. Any proposal I got from an auction company that had a buyer's fee also offered us a lower commission. Maybe we were getting abused a bit but we paid 20% on general merchandise and 10% on vehicles, buyer paid the 3% on credit cards if they used them. On a few of our sales that went well the Auctioneer slid boats and mowers into the vehicle column giving us a break on commission. Auctioneers are people, being so you'll find some that are professional and ethical and some that are not. For most folks selling don't hire and auctioneer to often which may make some auction companies not real worried about satisfaction, or repeat business, even if they do great repeat business isn't going to happen.
