Our lines were buried somewhere in the early 80's and that's when we got private lines. Toward the end the overhead line got so bad that whenever it broke I'd splice it together myself instead of going to the neighbor's across the section to call it in. I was told I could get buzzed if someone rang the phone while I was hanging onto the wires but it never happened.
When I think back I can count 9 parties on the party line in the 50's but that dwindled as several of the farms were vacated for good. That buried line gave trouble almost from the start. Every year they are replacing some part of it that went bad. Jim
