When my folks were in nursing homes many years ago, I always made sure there was enough money on deposit to take care of their needs.
Medicare didn't pay for certain things like cable tv or having your hair done. If I remember correctly, they paid for only 1 haircut every so many weeks. I had enough money on deposit so my mother could have her hair done or her nails done, etc. whenever she wanted.
That girl you're talking about may have been over zealous in wanting to cut your hair, and she may have thought you were giving her a $2 tip, but I don't think she was trying to scam you. It's commonplace to tip barbers.
