My in-laws live in San Pedro Sula, the largest city in Honduras. High walls with razor wire, private security and guard dogs in the yard are very common, a necessity. Typically, when there is an break-in planned, they poison the dogs first and come back a few days later and not have to worry about the dogs. Or they force their way in when occupants arrive, or kidnap someone with access to the home.
