On one hand who cares how much it cost him to fuel up or what his other cost are; how much he charged Joe down the street or even you for a job last week. The problem here is you did not get a firm quote before the job started. If you had a firm quote before the job starts it then becomes a simple math problem to figure out the total he should have charged.
