Example of why animals have it: Was at a sale barn once and walking past the loading chute that feeds the sales arena. Had dozen or so feeder calves lined up. The "attendant" had the high voltage stick (that hangs from the ceiling) in his hand just merrily walking down the chute shocking the crap out of every one of those babies.
I felt like taking the stick away from him and applying it to his private parts and see what he thought about that!
