i knew if i posted this problem there would be some bright people out there who could help me with it. thanks alot guys, as to buying a saw out of state, they check your zip code and make sure you get a carb compliant unit if used in calif. dealers can get a big fine if selling non compliant units to calif or other states like it. bought a log splitter from IMS back east and the engine has a carbon cannister connected to the fuel tank, a pre muffler on the exhaust etc. etc. thanks again, now at least i have several ideas to try.
