I find it hard to believe it's the headlamp wiring draining the battery if the headlight switch is turned off. I agree with b&d I think it's the alternator draining the battery. Simple diagnosis is to insert a test light in the battery ground cable circuit ans start by disconnecting alternator. When test light goes out you've found the short to ground.
