The FOX TV coverage of the Daytona 500 was a joke, IMHO. They'd show about 2-3 laps of actual racing, then eat up the next 5-10 laps with commercials. Of course, they made sure never to miss a moment of a caution period or a pit stop, and I don't think they ever took a commercial break during the over-2-hour red flag. But that's OK, they made up for it when the actual racing started.
Personally, when I turn on the TV to watch a race, I'd like to watch the actual RACE...but I'm probably in the minority these days. I have a friend who's not a NASCAR fan, but he told me he might tune in for the wrecks and the pit stops. Guess THAT'S the audience NASCAR is after these days...
