it sounds like a circulation issue to me..., if the top hose is cool at high temperatures, and warmer at cool temperatures, is it possible that teh thermostat is in backwards? Or does the new thermostat work the same way as the factory, i've seen thermostats that close off a recirculation pipe when they open... could be something like that... or is the impellor on the pump ok? Best thing to do is use another thermometer to check the temps when it does this.
