The two six volt batteries are hooked in series. The positive of the first battery is hooked to the starter post. The negative of the first battery is hooked to the positive of the second battery with a short jumper. The negative of the second battery then goes to a good ground on the frame. The positive post of the jumper will always corrode quickly and cause problems. With a no start always clean this one post and things will work. I liked to replace this whole mess with a 12 volt D8D battery and the problems went away. It does take a lot of room though!
