Don't the 18,000 btu lp wall - or free-standing - heaters have thermostats? Still too big for your little room, but... They are not rated for inside the house living quarters of course, not sure of your application.
At 50 square feet, don't think unvented gas is very safe or cost effective, that's a tiny area. An electric with thermostat should be the real deal for that small an area.
