Some grassland sold in western South Dakota a couple weeks ago. $2000/acre. This is an area that will raise probably 60 bu corn on AVERAGE. Obviously they can get a 100+/bu/acre crop on some years, but there are more years when they will get less then 40/bu. yields. Was telling a beginning farmer in the area, who had 120/bu corn on his first attempt at farming, how I remember years when a crop was planted and it didn't even come up due to NO moisture. He doesn't believe that it can happen. He will be in for a rude awakening when it happens again. He is buying new equipment like there is no tomorrow. I think there are going to be some big farm sales around here if we have a couple dry years. I remember years of having NO rain in the months of July and August. That has got to hurt corn.
