We have all three of the big Box's. I still prefer the local lumber yard. The sales people know their stuff. If a problem shows up 6 months later, they do their best to get it taken care of. I had some bad siding one time and the manufacturer wasn't doing anything to warranty it. Finally the local guys told them to take care of it or they would hold the cost of new out of their next payment. We got our new siding and was paid to replace it. You won't get that kind of service from the big 3. If you got a bad level or drill, they will but not the major stuff. The last house package from the locals, the material was actually cheaper than the big 3. I do like Lowe's lumber though so I had them do a price match to the local yard. They picked up the whole unit of 16 ft. 2/6 and brought it out to my trailer and we could pick through them while we loaded. Didn't have to through to many off. I pretty much quit going to Menards and never did use HD for lumber. Menards piles are always so picked over and some of the longer stuff, they will only have a couple of crooked things. Windows and doors I only use the local guys. They bring it to the job site and unload it where I want for free. The others will charge to deliver or you haul it yourself. The big 3 are definitely geared to the homeowner types where the local guys are geared towards contractors. A call at 7 am and the stuff I need is there by 8:30 at the latest.

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
