Two way street here. ONe way is "common courtesy" to not track mud and manure into a restaurant. The other is "this is how I made my money, this is how I'll spend it." I work in construction and sometimes have to eat when I am dirtier than I would like to be, but if someone doesn't like how I make my money then I will spend it somewhere else. And then ther are those who don't care/see how dirty they are.
