A long time ago, I realized that there is a real tendency in this country to spend everything you make. If you earn more, you tend to spend more and the increase disappears. At the time I learned this lesson, I was chasing income as if it would establish my family. The fact is, I was working so much it just about destroyed my family. Fortunately, the strain made me sick before the train wreck happened to my wife and kids.

As far as I am concerned, most of the covetousness going on in society today is for stuff we want, rather than stuff we need. That and impatience to have it all right now.
