Soil testing is some of the best money spent. The guys around here that just can't figure out why they raise 150 bu corn and others are in the 200-210 range sometimes are the ones who fertilize the same every year, just like they have for the past 30 years. How do you know where you stand if you don't test? I also treat my own ground compared to ground that I farm that will probably be houses or a strip mall soon quite differently. I also test more frequently at first any ground I just picked up that was usually not taken care of well by past tenants. It's unbelievable how much you can take off the fertility with a couple good 200+ bu years in a row. I'm taking some money I had budgeted for flown on corn fungicide and sinking it into to more fertilizer, don't know what you think about that. I think I may have thrown money in the wind last year and year before with the fungicide.
