To be completely accurate the 1655 stopped production in 1974 However the White 2-70 was a 1655 with different sheetmetal and went through 1976, I think. And yes they did have some drawbacks; for example I would like mine a whole lot better with hydraulic brakes and a pinion drive instead of that chain coupler. Now let's look at the 1855. Yes those were built with an engine that was really designed for about 80 hp not the 98 hp that was achieved with a turbo. But also remember that tractor lived on as the White 2-105, 2-110, 2-120 and finially the 2-140. Each time there was a change there were improvements but the basic tractor was the same. 2-105 had a Perkins engine and the 2-140 had a Cummins. That's why it's realitively easy to repower a 1855.
