I smoked 27 years and was up to 2 1/2 packs per day of More Reds (100mm long with brown paper). Quit in 1985, cold turkey. Carried a half pack in shirt pocket, and lighter in pocket for 1 year as a just-in-case measure. Could not have done it without carrying the dryed out pack and lighter.
