So you've never owned a B-275, yet feel comfortable making snide comments about them anyway - pointed towards their owners?
I can't comment on a 2414 since I've never seen one, nor worked on one.
B-275 has been my most used work-horse here for 30 years. Runs a 5 foot King Kutter rear PTO tiller, a 6 foot Deere PTO snowblower, pulls two 16" plows in hard soil on hills, etc. Transmission seems to be bullet-proof. My 3414 industrial hoe-loader has the same trans and is just as rugged.
My Ferguson TO-35 and Ford 641 cannot do the work the B-275 does.
I regard them as great "sleeper" buys. Maybe because of people like you, they often sell cheap. Live PTO, live hydraulics, differential lock, hi-low trans with gas or diesel - along with Cat. 1 three-point hitch and often with a $1000 price tag? That is pretty hard to match.
Also great parts support since Mahindra starting making most of the B-275 new again - with modern sheet metal on it.
And about Lucas? I've had tons of problems with the "Prince of Darkness" on my British cars and motorcycles. But no problems with Lucas stuff on farm tractors. Most problems I DO have with Lucas is the poor metal they use in the contactors inside their switches.

Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
